Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES)

Reliable communication is critical during an emergency. However, large buildings, concrete walls, steel structures, underground areas, and energy-efficient glass can interfere with public safety radio signals. MSS provides ERCES/BDA services that help ensure first responders can communicate clearly throughout your facility when it matters most.

An Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement System, often referred to as ERCES, ERRC, ERRCS, BDA, or public safety DAS, improves in-building radio coverage for fire, police, EMS, and other emergency personnel. These systems are often required by local fire code officials when a building does not meet minimum emergency responder radio coverage requirements.

Local requirements vary by AHJ, but ERCES/BDA systems are commonly tied to NFPA 1221, 1225, and 72 requirements for in-building emergency responder radio coverage.

Our ERCES/BDA Services

  • In-building radio signal surveys
  • BDA system design coordination
  • Public safety DAS installation
  • Donor antenna and distributed antenna system installation
  • Cabling, pathway, and equipment installation
  • Coordination with local fire officials and AHJs
  • Acceptance testing and system documentation
  • Annual testing, inspection, and maintenance
  • Troubleshooting, repairs, and system upgrades

Code-Compliant ERCES/BDA Solutions

Â鶹ÊÓƵ works with building owners, general contractors, facility managers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction to support code-compliant emergency responder communication systems. Our team can assist with signal testing, system design coordination, installation, commissioning, documentation, and ongoing inspection requirements.

ERCES/BDA systems are commonly required for:

  • New construction projects
  • Existing buildings with poor public safety radio coverage
  • Large commercial and high-rise buildings
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Mission-critical and data center facilities
  • Industrial and manufacturing spaces
  • Parking decks and below-grade areas

Why ERCES/BDA Systems Matter

During an emergency, first responders need dependable radio communication in stairwells, mechanical rooms, parking areas, basements, corridors, and other critical spaces. If radio signals are weak or blocked, response efforts can be delayed or compromised.

A properly designed and maintained ERCES/BDA system helps improve life safety by extending public safety radio coverage throughout the building. As a result, emergency teams can communicate more effectively, coordinate faster, and respond with greater confidence.
